Mahindra & Mahindra Plant Visit

Indian car manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra invited Team R Factor to their car production plant in Chakan, Maharashtra for a tour around their facilities.
Learn More.

It was an incredible learning experience for all of us on the team, and we left the plant with new knowledge and enthusiasm for technology and automation. As a robotics team, seeing the practical real life application of robotics filled us with a sense of complete awe, and gratitude to you, for giving us this opportunity. Special thanks to Ms. Preeti Sahu, Mr. Rajesh Dubey, Mr. Shridhar B and Mr. Sunny Lopez for going out of their way to make this trip truly special. From the press shop and the body shop to the assembly line, seeing robots work perfectly in sync was mesmerizing. Also inspiring was the amount of standardization that we saw in the XUVs and KUVs and the organization and cleanliness of all the facilities at the state -of-the art plant. Implementing the safety and production management techniques we saw at Chakan, would be a big step in improving our own performance in the future. On this trip, we truly learnt and experienced the importance of precision, efficiency, consistency and endurance. Equally humbling was the hospitality we received. After a delicious lunch, that was organized specially for us, we were given a surprise. The afternoon session on Arduino programming was truly the cherry on top of a wonderful day! The staff gave detailed and clear explanations on all automations that we saw at the plant so that even the youngest of us could understand, and the personalized gift bags given to us at the end of the visit (with the Arduino) were a pleasant surprise. Each and every one of us felt at home. We are extremely grateful for the time that everyone took to organize this inspiring trip, especially as a Chakan tour is not offered to people below the age of 18. We also take home with us a message: we learnt how M&M actively makes a difference to the community and to people who don’t have many opportunities. Our team, too, aspires to impact as many people as we can in our community who might not have the same opportunities as us. Once again, thank you for all your support. This trip was incredibly memorable and M&M will always have a special place in our hearts.

Equal Streets (2017)

Equal Streets is a street festival held on some of the streets of Mumbai. Every Sunday till 10:00 AM, vehicles are prohibited on the streets, allowing people to walk and cycle safely. Our team exhibited various innovations that the team members had built for previous FLL® competitions and other science competitions. We displayed various posters conveying fundamental safety rules, and also conducted mock drills around safety measures, safety tips and advice.

Visit to Rushikul Vidyalaya

We visited the Rushikul Vidyalaya, an institute that believes in hands-on learning over theory.

We got to interact with the bright young minds from Rushikul Vidyalaya, an institute that believes, in hands-on learning rather than just theory. Our lead mentor was invited to give a presentation about the importance of STEM, and later judge all the science projects students from grade 7-10 had made over the past two weeks. This was a great experience for us as we could see the true potential of students and what they can achieve when inspired. We hope to have many more such interactions!

Meeting with Barker Redbacks Mentors

Barker Redbacks (Team 4613) mentors Daiane and Jeser Becker visited us to share their learnings from over 15 years in the FRC program.

On 25th June, Daiane and Jeser Becker, the mentors of FRC team 4613, braved the Mumbai monsoon and traffic as they flew in from Sydney to visit us. They spent 4 hours with us, telling us about the organization and workings of the Barker Redbacks, one of the best teams in the world. Meeting Daiane and Jeser, and witnessing their approach, passion and commitment for FRC, having participated in the program for 15 years, was incredibly inspiring. They took pride in their team and identity as Barker mentors – the minute attention to detail and strategy they employed is something we are aiming to emulate. Finally, their advice - “Don’t take actions on possibilities but on facts”- stuck with us as something we must aspire to follow. We were incredibly fortunate to have gotten this chance to learn from them and are grateful to them for taking the time and effort to come all the way to India to impart their knowledge. Here’s hoping our teams continue to have a mutually beneficial relationship in the future.
Daiane and Jeser, we can’t wait to meet you again!
